Birthday and Bark Box…

Every single year, we all have a day that we can use to celebrate just being alive. Really you can do it everyday, but what I’m talking about here is your Birthday! I know that some of y’all out there choose not to acknowledge your special day, but I am not one of them. I feel that we are all entitled to a little merriment on the one day of the year that celebrates us coming into the world. I have had a lot of different Birthdays, some included large amounts of adult beverages, three years ago I drove to Memphis where my sister met me and we went to Graceland and then to a Jerry Lee Lewis concert. That was one of my favorites. I have gotten a tattoo, went pottery painting, and some other very fun stuff. I spent a Birthday out to sea when I was in the Navy, and some years the Super Bowl falls on my day as well.

Growing up, my mom would bake the cake of our choosing and make the meal that we wanted, but I haven’t spent a Birthday with her since I turned 19. I now always receive a special gift and card from her, and also my sister and brother. This year was no different, and found me with packages sitting on my dining room table that I tried to patiently wait to open! I spent some time with my favorite handy fellow the night before and he cooked a delicious meal of food, and played just about every awesome version of the happy birthday song that is on you tube. I went home in the early hours of my Birthday to get some rest for the next leg of celebration, and to open those gifts!! I got some awesome things that I had on my Amazon wish list, and also something so rad, that was not on my list. My sister got me a record player! I was really excited to be able to listen to some of those records from my Daddy, the first being “I Saw the Light”. I was able to speak to everyone in my family, and that’s always a happy day for me.

bday-2

I took the night off work, and planned a fabulous dinner at a place that I had wanted to go to for a while, it is called Ovinte at the St John’s Town Center, and it was such a great time!! I invited a group of ladies that didn’t even all know each other, and we all mingled, ate, drank, and were merry. They showered me with gifts and sang Happy Birthday; we had an amazing meal and met some fun older gentlemen at the table across from us as well! After about three hours of fun, we all went our separate ways, and I went back to my house to spend time with my boy Waylon to end the day. It was perfection start to finish.  Check out the review of our dinner here My Yelp Reviews!

A few days before my Birthday, I was giving a pretty special gift to someone else.. Waylon! I decided to finally try out something called Bark Box. It’s a monthly subscription where your doggy is sent a box every month with treats and toys. Each month has a different theme, and I have always heard it was so worth it. I had found a coupon that made it practically free so I went with it, and signed up for six months to see what I thought. His first box was delivered on a work day, so I hid it from him in the closet and waited until my next day off. We had so much fun opening this box. The treats are all natural and of amazing quality and the toys are great. The theme for this box was traveling, and he quickly chose the squeaky stuffed airplane as his new favorite. He didn’t even know there were treat to have until a few hours later! I am so glad that I decided to get this for him, and I look forward to seeing what the next themes will be! Doing something extra nice for him and showing him how much he means to me is important, and seeing him so happy makes me smile.

The year is still young, but has been outstanding so far. I am not going to say there aren’t days I get bogged down from the everyday stuff of life, but for the most part I realize I am a pretty lucky gal. Many people went out of their way to let me know they valued me and my 35th year, and I found a new way to spoil my tiny side kick!
