While I still had some days off from work, and I was pretty bummed about my fam squad leaving, I decided on a whim to just get outta town. I showered, packed myself and my tiny sidekick, and off I went. Destination-Savannah! I have quite a love affair with Savannah, and I have been there many times, even securing a job there once before changing my mind last minute. There’s just something about the town to me. The haunted buildings, the tree lined streets, the way even the bad parts of town are kinda still good. Every time I go there, I learn something new or see something different, maybe about Savannah, and sometimes about myself. I hadn’t been there in a long time and I was so overdue, and also I had never taken Waylon! So we arrived and parked at the Olde Harbour Inn, and I can tell you enough nice things cannot be said about this verrry pet friendly location.
We settled in and then hit the town! Waylon really loved it and trotted along happily while getting pats on the head and attention from so many people as we passed by them. I took him all up and down the different squares and to the City Market where we stopped in for a frosty drink for me and a little water break for him while listening to some live music. After resting his paws, Waylon was ready for more exploring, and I was ready for some food! We walked around a little more and went to Belford’s, a really great restaurant that I have actually been to on several occasions. They have a gorgeous outdoor seating area, and the food does not disappoint. The server brought Waylon some water and he just hung out under my chair while I munched happily on fried green tomatoes and she crab soup. It was time to take the puppy back to the room to relax, and then I went out and saw more outstanding live music, and made a few friends along the way while having adult beverages up and down River street.
Before I even knew what hit me, it was time to check out of my fabulous hotel suite, and continue the adventure! The weather was so nice out that I decided to leave the car where it was and head out on foot once again with my favorite guy. We found a place that had outdoor seating, and boasted the best bloody mary, so I decided this was fate! I will say that while in Savannah, I took Captain Four Feet into all kinds of places and we were never once asked to leave. B Matthews Eatery was no exception, and we were seated at a table in no time and there was already a bowl of water for him too! This place was awesome and my server was phenomenal as well. After filling our bellies we walked around, seeing a little more of the city in the daylight, and then headed back to the car.
When I tried to get the pooch to jump into the car, he hesitated, and he growled. I picked him up to put him in and just thought he was acting strange, when I saw that my center console was open and CD’s thrown all over the place. Luckily there was no forced entry, and nothing of any value was in my car. They maybe got 16 cents from me, since they apparently didn’t like any of my CD options. Two other vehicles in the lot were also burglarized and one couple lost a large sum of money. We were, however, out of there in NO TIME. Someone from the Hotel stayed with us the entire time, and The Police in Savannah are very fast moving, friendly, and efficient.

After that was over, I took my boy to see Forsyth Park. We ran and ran and he smelled and peed on just about every bush. We then sadly headed back to Jacksonville. Waylon slept the entire drive home and I think he really enjoyed himself on our little vacation together. This trip may have been quick in time, but it was really worth it in meaning for me. Traveling alone with Waylon is something that I am getting more comfortable doing, and heading out with no plan was good for me. Being on the highway was also just what I needed at that moment. Until next time Savannah, XOXO.
